EXPERIENCES OF THE LIVED FEMALE BODY.
In both 'The Structure of Behaviour' and 'The Phenomenology of Perception' Merleau-Ponty refers to the case study of aphasia patient 'Schneider'. With a breakdown of perceptual functions in the body, Schneider is unable to perform the most mundane tasks that normally, we would take for granted. Unable to perform any act for which he is not entirely 'present', Schneiders lacks the perceptual understanding that we usually habituate; he can only act by watching his limbs act in real space and time.
Perception is the bridge between mind and body, concrete and non-concrete. The piece 'Schneiders Pendulum' attempts to understand the split between body image and body schema through the use of performative drawing.
THE OBJECTIVE SPIRIT IS NOW JUST MERE SPECTACLE
IN THIS MODERN SOCIETY, LIFE IS REPLACED BY REPRESENTATION.
In the goal to understand my body as an object, drawing acts as my third eye. Being able to step back from my artwork to analyse my form and movement, enables the objective outlook on the self. Working in large scale, I aim to explore the boundaries of drawing as a representational tool for the mind and body. Focusing on the analytic frameworks of intersectional feminism, it is important in my drawings, to learn how to depict the pre-existing and succeedinglived, experiences of my body,
Body consciousness is fluid, ever-present (if we choose it to be), although I understand that it is entirely possible to articulate fluidity, both physical and sensational in drawing (proven time and time again from Giacomo Balla’s ‘Dynamism of a Dog on a Leash’ (1912) to Jenny Saville’s ‘Ebb and Flow’ (2015)) the use of technological methodologies in conjunction with traditional drawing, in my practice, gives me a greater opportunity to present my ‘self’ in ways that my immediate physical body cannot. In 'Experiences of the Lived Female Body' I continue to explore the ways in which technology can enhance my theoretical articulation, surrounding the perceptual bridge between mind and body.

The first step in working out a distinction between body image and body schema is to distinguish between conscious awareness of one's own body and a non-conscious performance of the body,
